Kind of a downer of a book, still well-written, but the tone was a lot different than I was expecting.
I'm going to hide the rest of the comments below the break - they have some spoilers in them.
It was kind of hard to read the main character failing, floundering, failing some more, and then ending up with no happy ending for anyone. Still good, and probably makes the rest of the series better, in that it's now established that the good guys don't always win - it'll add some tension in the reading.
