Sort of book three of the series that also includes The King's Peace and The King's Name, but not really. More of a prequel, and could probably be read first, or neglected, or even read alone. I liked it the best of the three, though, so I'd suggest reading it.
This one delves more into the heroic past of the Irish Celts (without naming them as such, and without being constrained by history), which was fun. As well-written as the other two, and without the Arthurian baggage.
