Following closely after Exodus, a significant time after The Shiva Option, and Imperative follows afterward. Don't read it out of order.
This was the best entry into the series for me - the character arcs were effective, the battle sequences were comprehensible (mostly because the larger events were treated more as background, with the focus on a small portion of the whole), and it was a fun story with some actual tough questions addressed.
Rating: 3, or a bit more.
