House of Suns - Alastair Reynolds

I'm not sure about this one.  It's a far-future high concept hard science fiction story, where civilizations rising and falling is just sort of background static.  Everything is really big, from kilometers-long starships, to 'car chases' lasting for millennia.  It was hard to feel connected to anything.  The story suffered as a result, in my experience.  I think it was very well written, but I had trouble caring.
