The Terror - Dan Simmons

Hatchette, 2007, 766 pages
ISBN: 978-0-316-01744-2
Read: October-November 2020, age 42

This was a pretty fantastic historical supernatural horror story.  Though, reading about people freezing and starving to death in the arctic just as winter was hitting was a bit weird.  I didn't expect the Inuit mythology to play as big a part in it as it did, and I thought it was a bit of a stretch early, but I bought in by the end.

My big complaint is that it's the arctic.  Temperatures are really cold, but not so cold as the Antarctic.  It seemed like the temperature in the book was always 'approaching -100 degrees F'.  The all-time cold-weather record for Greenland is -93 degrees F .  Seriously, -60 is really stinking cold.  That's enough! There's no need for exaggeration!

Anyway - good book.
