There were a lot of good points in the book, but I didn't enjoy it much, especially the first half.  The villains were overly hissable, and until the latter portions of the story, I didn't care about the protagonists at all.  The research was good, and I quite liked all the bits about the architecture.  

There.  How's that for a shit sandwich? I almost DNF'd the book, 400 pages in.
