The Sunrise Lands - S. M. Stirling

Roc, 2008, 512 pages
Original copyright 2007
ISBN: 978-0-451-46225-1

Emberverse book 4, book 1 of the The Sunrise Lands

Booklist says 'Brilliant Action', which, I suppose there is, in places.  Futures Mystery Anthology Magazine says 'Fast-paced.', which is either a flat-out lie, or pulled out of context.  There's full morning services, for multiple faiths, more than once.  There are many meals spelled all the way out.  It was a slow, detailed account of how many different groups survived the apocalypse.  I understand the reasoning, and I agree with it, but the cover copy is just flat out wrong.

I really enjoyed the book.  It lazily explored the post-change US as our heroes, on a quest, walked/rode horses across the prairies.  Which are really big.  Stuff happens, but not much advancement of the Quest for the Sword.
