Book 2 of The Books of Barakhai

It was better than the first book, but still disappointing.  I think that I didn't think the conceit (people shifting into animals for half their lives) was anywhere as cool as the author did, and the characters and the plot didn't fully make up for that.  It was fine.  

I'd looked for this book for about 10 years - the years of expectation were much more fun than the experience of reading.
