Ace Double: Envoy to the Dog Star - Frederick L. Shaw Jr. & Shock Wave - Walt & Leigh Richmond

Ace, 1967, 127 + 127 pages
Predates ISBNs
Read: September 2015, age 37

This is kind of a neat set of books - original paperback sci-fi, printed in 1967.  I think this is what they called "pulp".  One book is printed upside-down, starting from the back.

Shock Wave

Fun pulpy sci-fi from 1967, it aged surprisingly well.  The main story was of an heroic American who gets kidnapped by superior aliens.  Lots of FREEDOM moments, which was kind of appropriate.  Copy-editing wasn't a strength of the book.

Envoy to the Dog Star

I didn't quite buy the conceit of having our narrator being an uplifted dog.  It followed the anti-slavery theme  of Shockwave, but wasn't as good.  Just as poorly proofed and such.  It was all right.
