It seemed to me like the abridgment went badly for this book. Part of it is that it was so heavily abridged - 3 hours instead of 8.5 for the unabridged means that a *lot* was left out. As a result, the story started out nicely, had a couple things go wrong, and then... everything wasn't as bad as we thought and it was all over. It's probably a decent story, but it was hard to tell from this telling of it.
