There's really not a lot of surprise opening up a Bernard Cornwell book. There's going to be a big bloody battle (bloody big battle?), well described, some reasonable characters to make you care about it, and enough story to make it make sense. This was pretty much that. It was well done, and I quite enjoyed it, but there wasn't anything overly special about it.
