Corean Chronicles, book 1 of 8
The world building and description got in the way of a pretty good story with a pretty neat setting. Things just moved too slowly, as our hero needed to know the history and economy of everywhere he went. And then the action hurried by without quite enough explanation as to powers and reasons and background, and then back to more exposition.
There's a lot of promise, but it didn't quite work for me. Maybe it'll get better as the series progresses - it's a big story with a lot to set up.
