First Law trilogy, Book 1
A decent book, but definitely the first of a trilogy. Nothing much really happens, other than a team being assembled. As a stand-alone book, it wasn't much good, but there's a bunch of potential for the actual story.
I didn't find it particularly adult or dark, other than one character being an inquisitor in the vein of the worst of the Spanish Inquisition.
