I haven't been impressed with later Crichton books - it's seemed to me that he was writing for the screenplay rather than writing a book - but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The science was plausible and well-communicated, and the story was a page-turner. I read it in one evening. Not perhaps as scary as I'd hope for given the subject matter, but a pretty decent thriller.
