This would have been more interesting if I hadn't just read basically the same thing but better in Andrew Chaikin's A Man on the Moon.
There were differences, of course - this book had much more coverage of the Russian space program and the race between the USA and the USSR to get to the moon - but in general, I preferred Chaikin's book. It was more in-depth, and covered more of the technical and personality issues that I was interested in - this one was more surface level on those points, and covered politics in more detail.
This book was fine, but suffered in comparison.
