The Magicians, book 1
This book was billed as 'Harry Potter, but grown up'. My take was that it was one part Chronicles of Narnia, one part Wizard of Earthsea, and one part On the Road, with a heaping spoonful of clinical depression. It was angsty, melancholic, and the predominant emotional feel was malaise. It was really interesting, I think it was good, and I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I think I would have preferred it if more of the Harry Potter wonder and fun made it into the story.
