Where Altered Carbon hit the perfect amount of dense writing and fast-paced action, with just barely not enough information to make perfect sense of the story, this one erred on the side of not giving me enough information.

I didn't really care about the character from the first book - that wasn't the point of the story - and I didn't make much sense of the plot in this one as we went through it.  It was wrapped up at the end with a couple of big perspective shifts, which I suppose made it better, but I don't care enough to read through it again and have it make sense.

There was still good stuff, but... it was the difference between Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12 - the one, you could almost follow along, and the surprises were rewarding.  In the other, there was no following along, because the information wasn't there, and the surprises felt like you got cheated.
